Bulgaria - Page 5

Walt asked for pictures of some of the team in action, however, the only pictures I have access to at this point are mine.  So, the one to the left is me preaching. The one to the right is after a wonderful lunch at a member's home, we sang several songs together - me in English, them in Bulgarian.
Sunday was a very tiring day and as Maria, her husband and two children and the doctor walked me from the car to the hotel, Maria began singing "We Have This Hope" in Bulgarian.  I immediately joined in, in English of course, and we sang all the way to the hotel.  We didn't care who heard us - and we hoped they were blessed by it - I certainly was!  It doesn't matter the language, the love of Jesus crosses all barriers.

From Lorraine:
Larry's throat is better, but he is not sleeping well & is having a hard time physically, much like I am. He says that God gets him through every night so far, & he expects that God will see him through to the end. He still has 2 people from some occult group that are coming to his meetings. He is hoping to really talk with them soon to find out what has brought them to the meetings so consistently. He said that last night when he talked about death he really prayed that the spirit of devils would leave the hall. His equipment messed up & he felt so oppressed until he prayed. Thankfully, God has already won the battle.

Rita is so loved by the people in her church - they are starting to come to her with all kinds of personal problems, expecting her to solve the dilemmas that they are in. All the way from how to balance their budget & still pay tithe, to marriage situations that wring your heart for those involved.

I am so enjoying talking with the young people. This is certainly a change for me, but these kids really spend serious time thinking about their decisions, so their questions are not light & easy. It is really challenging. I wish I had made some business cards with my email, because they all do email & I think I would hear from them occasionally. I can write it out, which I do but cards are so much easier & less likely to be misinterpreted. For some reason they seem to have a hard time reading my writing!! I've always thought I had reasonably good handwriting!! There continue to be new people coming almost every night. I often wonder what they think, coming to just 1 meeting & getting such an incomplete picture of what the gospel is all about - since each sermon builds on the one before - at least for the most part.

Lorraine: Tuesday

The day started quietly enough but it didn't stay that way!! After the guys left, my pastor & his wife came & picked up Rita & Polina to go - they thought to see a little of Stara Zagora. Instead they took a drive to where there was suppose to be a rose museum, that was closed when they got there. Then they went to Shipka where there is a beautiful gold domed Orthodox church. I was so glad that I hadn't gone when I heard all this, because I had been to both places with Mirra & Lubensky. They didn't get home until 3:45pm & there driver comes at 4pm. They did some scrambling!!!

Mirra came over with some herbal stuff for Rita, said she must not be too sick if she was out running around. She has had a bad cold which she said felt like it was moving down into her chest, I was concerned, but apparently everything is OK.

Once again there were a lot of new people at the meeting tonight. Often wonder what they think. They all seem to be coming with church members so at least there is a connection. The pastor is working hard to get acquainted with everyone that is coming. His wife is the real social person though. She gets around to everyone!! She is real sweet & caring - truly a pastor's wife. They have 2 little VERY lively girls. Their philosophy seems to be - why walk when you can run? !!! both are very musical. The older one played the piano for special music one night - cute!!

After the meeting tonight the twin boys were suppose to demonstrate the traditional Bulgarian
Dances, but they forgot their music. So that's suppose to be a treat for Saturday night.

It was a good thing I guess because our landlady had invited her sons & daughter in laws over to meet us - this meant lots of food (their type of pizza, fried peppers, delicious sweet pickles, the last 2 were from their gardens. They were friendly & sharing pictures so of course we did too. Everyone always gets tickled when I show them a picture of Marvin (my dog) as my family!! When Polina remembered to translate it was fun. They did understand some English but wouldn't try & speak it. We used our few words!! Rita is sure a social person - she did most of the talking & hugging & kissing!!
